Thank You B4SMA! 02/15/2010
B4SMA graciously sent Maia a beautiful quilted blanket along with an adorable teddy bear. B4SMA is an organization devoted to sending blanket hugs to children with SMA from around the world. You can visit B4SMA at http://www.our-sma-angels.com/b4sma/. Maia & the family had a wonderful day celebrating Vietnamese New Year & Valentines Day, which both happened to fall on the same day this year! We started off the day having a delicious dim sum lunch at TC Choy's. The restaurant had a dragon dance show that we all enjoyed. We then took the kids to the Pinellas Performing Arts Center where there was a New Year's celebration. The rest of the day was spent with family, and we all had a nice dinner together at home which included steak, lobster, sushi, and of course, dessert.. YUM! Update on Maia 02/15/2010
Ok, so the past month there has been some changes with Maia. She continues to have her good days & not so good days with her body strength, but there has definitely been a slight decline with her head and neck control. We are pushing to get her more physical & occupational therapy each week. While it is most likely that Maia will not gain muscle strength, we want to try our best to have her maintain her current physical abilites. We are also going to take her to do another brain MRI and will let everyone know how that goes. Family Day at Busch Gardens! 02/02/2010
We all had a wonderful family outting on Sunday at Busch Gardens. The weather was a bit chilly, but it didn't stop us from having a great time and staying there until the park closed! Maia Enjoying Her Loaner Chair 01/11/2010
We have not yet been able to get a power chair for Maia... luckily St. Joseph's has let us keep the loaner chair for longer than we expected! This is your new blog post. Click here and start typing, or drag in elements from the top bar. Maia's 3rd Day in a Powerchair 12/23/2009
Just 3 days of having a powerchair in our home and Maia is already driving around like a PRO! Go Maia!!!!! Click on the link below to watch the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_N7qqcjtAz4 Sleep Study at All Children's Hospital 12/21/2009
We spent the night at ACH this past Friday to do a sleep study. Maia wasn't thrilled with having electrodes and wires running along her body, especially all over her head and face. But she did very well overall. We watched Dora on t.v. and read her favorite book until she fell asleep. She slept through the night and was excited to go home the following morning. The doctors at ACH were wonderful, and the hospital volunteers made Maia a little collage and a quilt blanket. Check out Maia driving a powerchair on her own! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1IGVqW68D0 She impressed everyone at the MDA Clinic so much that St Joseph's Hospital is going to let Maia keep this demo chair temporarily so that she can practice with it! We are hoping to get Maia's custom powerchair early next year. |
