Maia Shockley
Maia was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a hereditary disease that destroys the nerves responsible for controlling voluntary muscle movement. There is currently no cure or treatment for SMA. Maia will never be able to walk and she will need assistance with day to day activities for the rest of her life. Though the doctors do not think Maia will live very long, we have faith that she will beat the odds.
